I am sure that back in April it seemed as if October 15 was a long way away. If you applied for, and obtained, an extension from the IRS to file your 2015 federal income tax return the deadline to file is quickly approaching.

Luckily since October 15 falls on a Saturday you get an extra two days. Failure to file your tax return by October 17 can result in late filing penalties.

To add to your troubles, the IRS has announced that there is a new wave of attacks aimed at tax preparers. Identity thieves are remotely taking over the preparers’ computers and filing fraudulent tax returns. Consult your tax preparer and make sure that he/she is enacting all security measures to ensure that his/her tax preparation software is not taken over by identity thieves.
